It is noteworthy that how Grand Bakery still holds its charm over the years.


It was opened in 1959 by Ernie and Anne Hollander under the name The New York Bakery and passed through many hands.

In 2017, the bakery was at risk of shutting down with the then-owner Bob Jaffe’s retirement. It’s now got a new owner, New York native Sam Tobis with the motive to bring the spirit of the brand back to life and to ensure that Grand Bakery remains a staple of Jewish culinary life in the Bay Area.

Husband-and-wife team Dan and Jael Rattigan bought an abandoned cacao plantation and started on a chocolatey journey.
